STOP THE INDUSTRIALISATION OF OUR COUNTRYSIDE AND VILLAGES

A proposal has been submitted from BT to erect 4 wind turbines, each 125 metres(410ft) tall, at Threapland Lees Farm within 500m (547yds) of Threapland Village. At 125m tall these will be the tallest on land turbines in Cumbria. This is a rural location and we cannot allow it to become an industrial development site.
Threapland Turbine Action Group is not opposed to renewable energy as such, but expresses great concerns over the environmental damage and adverse health effects that wind farms can cause. It is the impact of these industrial installations and their side-effects particularly within 2km of dwellings that we oppose.
We strongly OBJECT to this proposal due to the proximity of the turbines to dwellings and because, as BT have stated in their Environmental Statement Report, “the character of the landscape would be completely changed by the proposed turbines as they would become the dominate feature of what is currently a rural village location without modern influences”.
The “green”, environmentally-sound alternative for the Northern Fells is not to build turbines on this pristine landscape. We should not further create the industrialisation of our countryside in an attempt to solve our energy crisis. In attempting to solve one environmental problem we must not leave a landscape nightmare as our legacy.
